NEIGHBORHOOD
The villa des Platanes is not a street, but a private residence consisting of several historical buildings situated around a series of tree-filled paved courtyards accessible only to residents.
The first thing that impresses one is the absolute silence: the singing of birds replaces the noise of traffic on the busy boulevards that are only a stone’s throw away.
You can bathe in the atmosphere of nineteenth-century Paris when all the important artists lived in this area - Degas, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec - as can be seen from the numerous ateliers.
The Moulin Rouge is just a few minutes away, as is the nightlife of Pigalle (one of the most visited sights in Paris!).
This area has as become well-know thanks to Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulin. You can rediscover the atmosphere of the film in the cafés around the place des Abbesses and admire the fantastic view over Paris from the Sacré Cœur.
Walking around Montmartre is like taking a step back to the time when Paris was the capital of the arts. And, of course, the rest of Paris is accessible by metro or by bus.
