NEIGHBORHOOD
The apartment is very centrally located just one minute from the Louvre and the wonderful PLACE DES VICTOIRES that figures in "our coups coeur":
Dedicated to the roi soleil, Louis XIV, this royal square inaugurated in 1686 served as a model throughout France. The exceptional architecture is the creation of Jules-Hardouin-Mansart (architect of the Château de Versailles). There remain 6 buildings from the seventeenth-century, including the beautiful façade of an hotel particulier near the rue Croix des Petits Champs.
Apart from being next to the world’s largest museum that you can explore at your leisure, you are also a stone’s throw from the banks of the Seine and the Ile de la Cité with its ravishing Place Dauphine: a hidden square lined with ancient buildings.
Another peaceful haven just a few minutes away is the Palais Royal with its harmonious architecture, elegant arcades, cafés, restaurants and landscaped gardens.
There are numerous places of interest within walking distance. You can stroll through the royal Jardin des Tuileries and visit the Jeu de Paume and the Orangerie. Just opposite the Tuileries on the other side of the Seine is the Musée d’Orsay. Or cross over the Seine by a pedestrian bridge, the Pont des Arts, and in 5 minutes you are in Saint-Germain des prés with its numerous cafés and restaurants.
The Forum des Halles, a huge underground shopping centre, is only 5 minutes away and forms a transport hub with direct suburban trains to Versailles, Euro Disney and both Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports.
Finally, the sumptuous place Vendôme with its famous jewellery shops is just 10 minutes walk – why not have a glass of champagne in the bar at the Ritz? Or spend an evening at the Opera which is only 12 minutes walk from the apartment?
